Akris is delighted to announce that Her Serene Highness Princess Charlène of Monaco attended the Spring/Summer 2013 Akris défilé at the Palais de Chaillot in Paris on Sunday, September 30th, 2012.

The collection was inspired by the brazilian landscape architect and painter Roberto Burle Marx and shown before the backdrop of a Burle Marx inspired tropical garden.

The Princess wore a brick suede dress exclusively created for the occasion by Akris Creative Director Albert Kriemler.

90 looks, exceptionally once, for the 90th anniversary in a Roberto Burle Marx inspired garden.

The Brazilian landscape architect, plantsman and painter invented a new language for modern landscape design. He abandoned the tradition of the straight line and cultivated a passion for curved and sensual lines.

His work is, in the detail and as a whole, always one and the same. Inimitable!

Fall 2012, Assouline,

“Style is all about the woman; it’s about her personality. You should notice the woman first, ,and what she is wearing follows.” – Albert Kriemler

2012 marks the 90th anniversary of Akris, the Swiss fashion house known for its sleek, refined and sensual minimalism. “Akris“ by Valerie Steele (Assouline, New York, 2012) explores the innate qualities and codes of a fashion house guided for the last 30 years by Creative Director, Albert Kriemler. From vibrant runway imagery to behind-the-scenes studio photography, artist sketches, and the works of art that inspired some of the most notable Akris collections, this book encapsulates the brand’s aesthetic.

Akris stands for fashion whose clear, architectural lines and relaxed elegance will work effortlessly for high-powered women as well tomorrow as they do today. The house combines traditional couture craftsmanship and highly innovative artisanal fabrics such as double-face and embroidery, and has introduced horsehair as the signature material in its accessories collection.

Mapping the rich heritage of the house and its dynamic evolution in recent years, Valerie Steele identifies themost significant collections in Albert Kriemler’s work for Akris as well as fashion milestones including the first photo prints shown in the Spring/Summer Collection 2009 in Paris and the launch of accessories in 2010.

„It is modern to create a style that is simultaneously feminine and strong. The streamlined look of Akris fashion is designed to enhance the body, not to restrict it, and also to provide psychological strength and energy through a feeling of effortless just-rightness. This is fashion for the individual, modern woman.“ (Valerie Steele in „Akris“, Assouline 2012)

Based in St. Gallen, Switzerland, the family owned fashion house maintains a reputation as a well kept secret within the international fashion community. Often referencing cultural and art influences in his work – painters like Franz Kline, architects like Herzog & de Meuron and the cinema -, Albert Kriemler has attracted a loyal clientele including personalities as diverse as Angelina Jolie and H.S.H Princess Charlène of Monaco.

Third generation owners Peter Kriemler, Global President and Albert Kriemler, Creative Director, head Akris, originally founded in 1922 by their grandmother Alice Kriemler-Schoch and transitioned in 1944 to Peter and Albert’s father, Max Kriemler, who initiated the international development of the fashion house.

In his role as Creative Director Albert Kriemler is responsible for the design of all Akris collections, as well as all communication, corporate art direction, architectural design, and overall brand image for Akris, while Peter Kriemler is heading management operations, production, strategy and markets.

Since its inception, Akris has remained true to its tradition of innovation, craftsmanship and defining the art of sensual minimalism. Valerie Steele is director and chief curator of the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (MFIT). Having curated more than twenty exhibitions in the past ten years, Valerie Steele also serves as editor in chief of Fashion Theory: The Journal of Dress, Body & Culture, which she founded in 1997.
